Guest Shooter: Secret Weapons of Yams Designs

Hi everyone! I am super excited to be guest posting for Tiffany while she's on her super awesome trip to China! Real quick, my name is Lindsay and I am from Yams Designs, blog & business for interior decoration, art, colors & other fun stuff. :)

Inspired by Tiffany's "Secret Weapon" series, here are a few secret weapons I like to use in the design world.

Number 1:

Paint is a designer's best friend. It is integral to the mood and decor of the room. It can be bold & bright or soft and muted. Beige or Blue, paint is our go-to gal.

Number 2:
A fantastic rug! Even on carpet, a rug can be used to define a sitting area, add color or texture or even hide that impossible-to-get-rid-of stain.

Whether artificial or natural, we can't see stuff without light. We need it! Capturing & enhancing natural light adds an airy and open feel to any room. The right placement and choice of fixture, turns an ordinary luminary into a piece of jewelry for your room.

So there you have it. We designers have many weapons, but these are the most used and the most integral. You don't need all of them all of the time, but they'll never let you down when you do! :)

Thanks for the chance to be a guest blogger, Tiffany! I hope you're having an amazing trip!

Hit List: Day at the Races

This week's Hit List is one of my favorite's in quite some time. I was inspired by the carousel printed dress from Modcloth and the more I scoured the Internet, the more I fell in love with all of the horse-themed accessories and apparel I found. There is something so sweet about the carousel icon that simply made my heart melt. I also loved the award ribbon necklace from Anthropologie. Though it is steep, this truly would be a wonderful prize, don't you think?

Spotted: Travel Essentials

I was inspired today while packing for my trip and decided to show off a few of my new goodies for going overseas. Though I've only been once, I definitely know what I like and don't like and feel the need to share with you all some secrets for travel.

Number 1: A passport holder/wallet. Last time I went, I had a much smaller version that was literally the size of my passport and I then had to carry a separate wallet for cash and receipts. This beauty below is much larger, long enough to fit all your cash, and even your tickets! It's pretty sweet and one of my favorite gifts from Christmas. Plus, it's cute!

Number 2: This is new for me, but if I've learned anything from celebrity news, they totally recommend this Evian spray for after your flight. I've tested it, of course only in my apartment, but it seems like it will be very refreshing. I will let you all know!

Number 3: Who likes using pillows and blankets that have been used by thousands? Instead, bring your own! I also received this as a gift. It's a pillow (that inflates) and has a blanket and eye mask that neatly fit inside. Sweet eh?

Number 4: A large and adorable carry-on bag. This tote is huge! I've actually used this solely on it's own for a three-day weekend trip. It fit my clothes, toiletries, and things to do on the plane!

Number 5: Comfy and stylish clothing. Sitting (or sleeping) on a plane for 14 hours plus means you need to be comfy. I love these yoga pants from Victoria's Secret and seriously live in them on most weekends. So, of course I will be wearing these on my flight!

That's all. Once I go again, I'm sure I will have many more secrets of packing and traveling to share for future trips to come!

Daily Fashion Show: Kick Ass!

Went shopping this week with the intent to buy a dress for my trip and instead, found the most kick ass boots EVER!

They even kicked my ass. I fell in them while dancing around my bedroom the first night and caused my ankle to swell. Well, determined girl I am, decided to wear them to work yesterday in order to learn how to walk in them. And, I think I did! No falling. A few little wobbles, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

I mean, look at these things, seriously not joking around right? Last new piece in this ensemble is my crochet sweater. Yet another great piece I got from the clothing swap a few weeks ago. The puffy sleeves I think are my favorite part! I mean how fun are these boots with the 70s sweater, right?

Sweater: from a clothing swap
Jeans: The Gap

Daily Fashion Show: Girl Power

Stone + lace + ruffles = 1 girl power ensemble today. I took two of my favorite shirts from Urban and made them into 1 awesome look, full of girlyness in all it's glory.

I loved the lace caps on the sleeves so much, I decided to move that to my feet and wear fun, little lace socks.

And stone? Well, you really can't have enough of that. I added on a brooch of mine to my shirt for even more sparkle. Oh, and my little friend, the elephant, also had a stone encrusted nose and feet. Sweet!

Lastly is my blue chair. Thought it went with the ensemble, plus it's comfy and doesn't really get much use besides piling on clothes and other goodies I'm too lazy to put away.

Tops: Urban Outfitters
Pants: Loft
Shoes: Macy's
Socks: Claire's
Brooch: from a jewelry party
Ring: For Love 21

Daily Fashion Show: Pop Rocks

Today I'm showing you two great things (and then, of course, lots of little things). 1 is my fabulous, chunky, rock candy-esque necklace and 2 is my new backdrop, my RED kitchen!

I love the necklace so much! Got for Christmas from the BF's sister (thank you!). It's perfect because it looks like my vintage pieces but updated with the translucent beads, [and!] it's from my favorite store, Anthro! Also, these earrings are great. Made of vintage postcards and pearls, they are just quirky enough to go with this ensemble.

I recently got this sweater from a clothing swap and LOVE it. The sea foam color just screamed spring to me today and looked great with the grey and pink I had going on.

Lastly is my new RED kitchen! Chris and I spent the weekend painting and I couldn't be happier! More pictures to come :)
